бизнес-процесс

1) формализованное представление целенаправленных действий людей в виде блок-схемы операций;

2) (исторически) элемент описания деятельности при проектировании автоматизированных систем управления для предприятия (более ранние именования – диаграмма операций, деловая процедура, схема Тейлора);

3) вне контекста автоматизированных систем управления – смысла не имеет: в реальной жизни каждое прохождение бизнес-процесса уникально;

4) увлечение бизнес-процессами неизбежно приводит к бюрократизации управления, поэтому это увлечение должно ограничиваться такими областями, которые и сами по себе формальны и бюрократичны по существу (отдел кадров, бухгалтерия, канцелярия).

бюджет

1) первоначальное значение: кожаный мешок (с деньгами), будучи хранилищем денег, бюджет не содержит никаких статей – они существуют исключительно в представлениях людей, наполняющих мешок и берущих оттуда деньги;

2) в бизнес понятие «бюджет» в своем современном виде пришло из способа управления денежными средствами государства, где расписание доходных и расходных статей является единственным (если не считать печатного станка) средством балансирования доходов и расходов, поскольку нет никакого более рационального способа определить какие расходы финансировать, а какие нет;

3) поскольку бизнес, в отличие от государства, является целенаправленной системой, то методы государственного управления деньгами в бизнесе неприемлемы; слово «бюджет» и соответствующие бюджетные процедуры приводят к вынужденному планированию многих вещей, которые планировать не нужно и/или невозможно, и к невозможности оперативно выделять и направлять средства туда, куда диктуют постоянно меняющиеся обстоятельства ведения бизнеса;

4) бюджет и операции над ним – мощное средство укрепления позиций финансистов, поле для борьбы руководителей за свои «поляны», источник постоянных и неустранимых конфликтов между подразделениями и видами деятельности, незаменимый и неоценимый по своим качествам стимулятор затратного подхода.

департамент

1) дословно означает «подразделение»;

2) кроме немногих случаев, это хранилище сокровенных знаний и место концентрации людей, защищающих свои групповые интересы, в том числе и в борьбе за бюджет;

3) обычно считается, что люди за пределами департамента не обладают достаточными знаниями для понимания деятельности департамента;

4) также средство создания дополнительного уровня в иерархии, что способствует повышению числа начальников (и их денежного вознаграждения).

инвестиции

1) денежные вложения, ориентированные на получение денежного вознаграждения;

2) в настоящее время это понятие толкуется расширительно: благодаря использованию различных счетных методик и учетных конструктов, считается, что можно инвестировать в дополнительные запасы, информационные технологии, людей, PR и рекламу, ремонт оборудования, организационную структуру и другие вещи, связи которых с будущим денежным вознаграждением либо нет, либо она не может быть корректно измерена.

команда

1) группа лиц, совместно выполняющих выданное извне задание, под руководством назначенного ответственным за это задание командира; действия команды характеризуются а) конкретностью цели, б) ограниченным временем исполнения (и существования команды), в) определенностью потребных навыков и знаний и г) четким распределением ролей;

2) единственными аналогами команды в бизнесе могут быть аварийные бригады и проектные команды на коротких и малолюдных проектах, во всех остальных случаях понятие команды к бизнесу не применимо;

3) использование термина «команда» в бизнесе свидетельствует о непонимании первым руководителем основ своей деятельности и манипулировании этим непониманием со стороны своего ближайшего окружения; целью такого манипулирования всегда является защита личных интересов в ущерб достижению компанией своей цели.

контроль

1) буквально «контроль» – это и есть управление;

2) в настоящее время в русском языке контроль трактуется как проверка состоятельности системы управления и правильности исполнения отдельных функций и/или операций, то есть, как функция надзора;

3) в бытовом смысле контроль по-прежнему означает возможность вмешаться, изменить, то есть управлять («я это держу под контролем»);

4) тонкое различие между «управлять» и «контролировать» в их корневых значениях часто приводит к путанице, к переоценке «контролерами» и «управляющими» своей способности понимать ситуацию и влиять на нее. 5 В нормально устроенном бизнесе функции управления и контроля не смешиваются: управление не занимается проверками, а надзор не занимается управлением (но выдает сигналы о ненадлежащем исполнении функций и/или операций).

контроллинг

1) деятельность по созданию идеальной (см. планирование, бюджетирование) и фактической картин текущего финансового состояния компании и управлению (на основе и в целях приближения к идеальной картине) текущими финансовыми операциями. Утверждается что сильный контроллинг способствует повышению как доходности, так и устойчивости компании;

2) деятельность по созданию удобной и приятной глазу генерального и финансового директоров картины и, по возможности, недопущение более высоких расходов во всех подразделениях компании, кроме финансового;

3) формальная деятельность по созданию управляемой финансистами системы запретов, что способствует повышению их властной роли в жизни компания путем проникновения в дела всех подразхделений, имеющих хоть какие-то расходы, кроме заработной платы;

4) одна из имеющихся у финансистов систем, подразумевающих регламентацию содержательной деятельности, включая принятие решений в компании. Как и другие системы регламентации, приводит к несвоевременному (раннему на этапах целеполагания и планирования, позднему – на этапах реализации, при необходимости анализа и в случаях изменений), затягиванию содержательных работников предприятия в исполнение учетно-надзорных функций и другие виды бюрократизации.

конфликт интересов

1) на Западе формальное наименование ситуации, в которой человеку выгоднее передать решение другим людям, чем терпеть репутационный ущерб, связанный со своим решением;

2) в реальности, на самом деле, у человека не бывает конфликта интересов (т.е., человек — не буриданов осел, он всегда в состоянии сделать выбор);

3) когда люди говорят о конфликте интересов у других – они имеют в виду либо недолжное исполнение этими людьми своих договорных обязанностей (такая точка зрения характерна для незаинтересованных людей со стороны, например, консультантов), либо борются за власть («у тебя конфликт интересов» = «отойди, я приму это решение»);

4) когда люди говорят о том, что у них есть конфликт интересов, им следует либо выучить, наконец, русский язык, либо обратиться к психиатру (шизофрения предполагается).

лидерство:

1) настоящие лидеры не похожи на лидеров, точка. Также см. харизма.

мотивация

1) попытка подменить личные мотивы индивидуума какими-то другими или использовать личные мотивы индивидуума в целях, отличных от его собственных;

2) является либо прямым манипулированием, либо сводимым к манипулированию шарлатанством психологического толка;

3) мы не можем и, скорее всего, не хотим знать, каковы мотивы каждого работника (пришел ли он на работу зарабатывать деньги, строить карьерную ступеньку, потусоваться, завести два-три служебных романа или показать всем свою немеренную крутость (профессиональную и не), все, что нам нужно – это чтобы он делал то, что нам нужно, а мы платили ему столько, сколько обещали за эту работу;

4) дополнительно оплачиваться может только дополнительный, не предусмотренный договором результат; заранее объявленная регулярная премия воспринимается как обязательство и сплошь и рядом приводит к гонке и снижению качества;

5) премия (дополнительная оплата) должна быть одноразовой, неожиданной, необсуждаемой; регулярная оплата должна быть несколько выше рынка, к ней прилагается система штрафов (т.е. стимулов и поощрений в их истинном смысле), причем наложение штрафов не является целью, они нужны как индикаторы для самого работника;

6) из неденежных методов управления есть только один работающий – вежливость и уважение: работника можно уволить, но на него нельзя повышать голос и его нельзя унижать; то возможно обидное, что иногда необходимо сказать, нужно говорить с глазу на глаз.

организация (в бизнесе)

1) 1а как объект: то же, что и компания, фирма: юридически оформленная группа лиц, объединившаяся для достижения определенных целей;

2) в как деятельность: действия, направленные на достижение объединенной группой лиц поставленных перед ними целей, – один из аспектов управления; организация как деятельность вне контекста управления смысла не имеет;

3) со словом «организация» в обоих значениях связано огромное количество мифов: широко распространено мнение, что правильная организация (построение оргструктуры, организация труда отдельных работников и подразделений, и т.д.) оказывает существенное влияние на результат деятельности бизнеса;

4) в действительности полезные организационные изменения всегда являются следствием других управленческих решений.

оргвопросы

1) совокупность бытовых проблем, без решения которых жизнь организации невозможна, но решение которых не влияет на прибыль;

2) отнесение к оргвопросам проблем организации работы предприятия является грубой управленческой ошибкой.

планирование, план

1) 1а планирование — вид управленческой деятельности, связанный с определением целей управляемой системы, с поиском наиболее эффективных методов и средств, необходимых для достижения этих целей, и с формированием системы показателей, определяющих ход работ по достижению поставленных целей; результатом планирования является план;

2) в план – намеченная на определенный период работа (совокупность работ), с указанием ее цели, метода, объемов, последовательности, сроков выполнения и необходимых ресурсов;

3) процедуры планирования всегда предполагает определенное представление о неопределенном будущем, что является причиной того, что в плане всегда заложены следующие неизбежные и часто неопределимые по величине ошибки: а) связанные с тем, что составитель плана имел неверное представление о будущем; размер этой ошибки и ее последствия не могут быть определены заранее; б) связанные с методом планирования (не существует и даже теоретически не может существовать научных методов планирования человеческой деятельности); размер этой ошибки не может быть точно оценен в силу указанной выше причины и в) ошибки, связанные с исходными данными для планирования – выбором исходных данных и измерением этих исходных данных;

4) тем не менее, люди умеют составлять планы для тех областей, где указанные неопределенности и ошибки минимальны: хорошо поддаются прогнозированию и, как следствие, планированию, те виды деятельности, в достижении цели которых основную роль играют естественные регулярности (физические, химические, биологические законы);

5) что касается собственно деятельности людей, то здесь обычно оправдано планирование, основанное на свойствах людей, как биологических объектов (способность выполнить определенную физическую работу, прочитать и понять текст, решить задачу по известному алгоритму);

6) в остальных случаях создатель плана вынужден пользоваться либо существующими примерами (эмпирика), либо догадками (эвристика);

7) точное выполнение планов в рыночных условиях чаще всего является случайным совпадением; тем не менее, производственные планы можно и нужно строить с целью максимально точного исполнения, в то время как планы продаж по своей сути являются всего лишь пожеланиями и одновременно целью, требующей для своего достижения деятельной заботы;

8) чрезмерное планирование различных функциональных деятельностей создает иллюзию того, что неопределенность и вариабельность в системе отсутствуют; при столкновении с реальным миром, в первую очередь нарушаются стыковки между планами, что требует постоянного перепланирования всех детализированных и многочисленных планов… этой бессмысленной работы можно избежать, делая планы менее детальными, планируя на более короткие периоды и уменьшая количество стыкуемых планов в разных функциях и подразделениях.

понимание

1) представление о причинах и механизмах явления;

2) для бизнеса особенно опасен миф о том, что для совместного сотрудничества людям необходимо «общее понимание»: в реальной жизни общее понимание практически недостижимо даже в естественных науках (физика, химия биология) и науках дедуктивных (математика, логика, праксеология, экономическая теория), не говоря уже об искусствах и гастрономии;

3) опасность этого мифа заключается в том, что он порождает огромное количество работы по «достижению общего понимания» среди людей, у которых: а) отсутствует личная необходимость в таком «общем» понимании, имеется сопротивление лишним, ненужным сведениям, которыми их нагружают (перегружают), имеется большое количество дел, представляющих предмет их компетентной заботы (мы не подозреваем в людях злонамеренности);

4) другой важный негативный эффект от попыток достичь общего понимания — эффект образования ориентированного на всеобщую успеваемость; качество такого образования всегда определяется способностями наихудшего ученика;

5) не следует путать «общее понимание» с информированностью и ориентированностью сотрудников: по жизненно важным вопросам (например, цель деятельности компании или функции подразделения) необходимо полное понимание тех, кто этим занят и обзорное понимание тех, кто с этим связан в ходе работы.

правление – см. совещание.

прозрачность

1) соответствие деятельности неким нормам, которые, как считается, обеспечивают убежденность третьих лиц в том, что предоставляемая компанией отчетность соответствует реальному положению дел;

2) меры по обеспечению прозрачности всегда по необходимости формальны (институт «прозрачности» при желании обходится столь же просто, сколь просто обходятся обычные нормы учета);

3) неукоснительное соблюдение принципов прозрачности неизбежно ведет к усилению контроля со стороны лиц, исполняющих формальную работу и либо не влияющих на конечный результат деятельности, либо влияющих отрицательно;

4) правильно организованная «прозрачность» помогает злоумышленникам, обеспечивая им дополнительный (зачастую весьма толстый) слой формального прикрытия (наиболее частые фразы: «у нас все процедуры выполнены», «у нас все прозрачно», «мы действовали строго по регламенту»);

5) поскольку прозрачность является одним из требований внешнего мира, компания не может не заниматься этим вопросом, но может подходить к нему формально, не допуская вмешательства «прозрачников» в содержательную работу.

профессионализм

1) 1а первичное значение (корневое, архаичное): деятельность, с помощью которой человек зарабатывает на жизнь;

2) в более современное значение: владение и применение человеком специфичного для конкретного вида деятельности набора знаний и навыков;

3) разрыв между этими двумя значениями огромен: профессионал во втором смысле сплошь и рядом может не обладать набором знаний и навыков, необходимым для соответствующей деятельности, более того, в ряде занятий понятие профессионализма невозможно. В политике, на войне, в инвестициях и финансовом анализе, гадании, на сцене, в занятии писателя и художника и многих других чаще всего нельзя определить, является ли какое-то достижение следствием знаний и навыков или случайным совпадением;

4) тем не менее, термин профессионализм часто понимается ложно: всякое лицо, достигшее успеха, автоматически наделяется титулом профессионала[i].

рефлексия

1) Способность человеческого мышления к критическому самоанализу, анализу индивидуумом собственных знаний, поступков, методов, деятельности;

2) Являясь важным инструментом познания и самопознания, рефлексия также является источником многих ошибок: с помощью рефлексии, например, редко возможно обобщить решение, принятое ранее в условиях неопределенности;

3) рефлексия благодаря несовершенству логического устройства мозга и особенностям человеческой памяти, является непревзойденным источником ложных теорий и реконструкций прошлого;

4) эксперименты с применением рефлексивной позиции в бизнесе не всегда эмпирически оправданы, хотя и не являются настолько шарлатанскими, как всевозможные мотивационные и командообразующие тренинги и коучинг.

семинар

1) один из видов практических учебных занятий, способствующий углубленному изучению темы; специфика семинара – коллективное, под руководством преподавателя, обсуждение сообщений, докладов, задач, выполненных учащимися самостоятельно;

2) семинар в бизнесе – это способ доведения каких-то установок, реже – способ обучения новым знаниям и навыкам; семинары в бизнесе обычно характеризуются плохой готовностью участников, встречается также неготовность ведущего семинара; презентационная сторона дела в бизнес-семинарах имеет безусловный приоритет над содержательной, отчего эффект семинаров либо вовсе отсутствует, либо незначителен, либо действие эффекта непродолжительно;

3) популярная форма зарабатывания денег лицами, сумевшими внушить публике, что они обладают специальными познаниями эзотерического характера, которые требуют непосредственной передачи от учителя к ученику; особенно популярны такие семинары в тех областях, где эффект семинара принципиально не проверяем: лидерство, командообразование, мотивация. Часто ведется в форме деловой игры;

4) не отличаются от таких семинаров так называемые тренинги, если они не являются обычной тренировкой строго определенных профессиональных навыков (работа на определенном оборудовании, заполнение определенных форм, трансформация отчетности и т.д.) 5 наиболее зловредной формой тренингов является так называемый коучинг – тренинг для одного человека. В ситуации коучинга отсутствует критическое отношение к происходящему со стороны тренируемого в силу его высокой загрузки[ii] коучем; типичным результатом коучинга является ни на чем не основанное повышение самооценки, появление чувства превосходства; нередки эффекты пренебрежения окружающими, самодовольство, распущенность, уверенность в собственной непогрешимости, что, при столкновении с реальной действительностью, зачастую приводит к нервным срывам, вынуждая клиента снова и снова обращаться к помощи коуча. Можно утверждать, что человек, прибегший к коучингу, принципиально не отличается от человека, прибегающего к услугам психотерапевта.

совещание

1) собрание, посвященное обсуждению какого-либо специального вопроса;

2) совещание в бизнесе – обсуждение специального вопроса с целью принятия решения; считается, что решение, принятое в процессе совещания, лучше продуманы и вызывают меньшее сопротивление при исполнении, благодаря предварительной согласованности позиций;

3) это представление не оправданно логически и потому верно лишь иногда: состав лиц, способных выработать наилучшее решение и состав лиц, которым придется его исполнять, вообще говоря, не совпадает, поэтому обычным результатом совещания является принятие не наилучшего возможного решения, а наиболее удобного, сравнительно легко исполнимого, не вызывающего немедленных конфликтов между участниками совещания;

4) созыв совещания является наилучшим способом отложить решение или разделить ответственность за принятие решения; инициатор созыва совещания, таким образом, показывает свое нежелание принимать решение;

5) предложение «давайте соберем совещание по этому вопросу» переводится на русский язык следующим образом (список исчерпывающий): а) «я не хочу принимать это решение», б) «мне все равно, что решат другие» и в) «я против этого решения, но не хочу протестовать открыто». Заседания такого органа, как правление, отличается от совещания только тем, что имеет полномочия издавать общеобязательные для компании решения; к нему полностью применимо все сказанное выше.

стратегия

1) первоначально – военная хитрость; впоследствии – план победы в битве, военной кампании, войне; стратег – лицо, обладающей соответствующей хитроумностью; также главная военная должность в греческих государствах-полисах; заметим, что масштаб действий в то время позволял не различать крупные и мелкие военные предприятия, однако позднее было введено разделение на стратегию, операции и тактику (соответственно, план всей военной кампании или даже войны, план действий крупных соединений по реализации стратегии, краткосрочной план действия отдельных боевых единиц в обеспечение успеха операции);

2) применение военных аналогий и метафор в бизнесе весьма сомнительно: бизнес – не война, выигрыш в бизнесе одной компании не предполагает поражения другой; компании, в отличие от военных противников, никогда не конкурируют друг с другом – каждая из них конкурирует за ресурс, не принадлежащий кому-либо из них – за деньги покупателя; акты борьбы компаний друг с другом бессмысленны и являются чистыми затратами: в реальности у компании нет нужды даже обращать внимание на конкурентов, все ее проблемы решаются построением удачных взаимодействий, во-первых, с потребителем, во-вторых – с партнерами;

3) единственным осмысленным толкованием слова «стратегия» в бизнесе является следующее: набор обоснованных методов достижения цели компании как в настоящий момент, так и в будущем; при этом необходимо заметить, что поскольку военные аналогии не действуют для бизнеса, то декомпозиция стратегии вниз и построение отдельных функциональных стратегий или стратегий подразделений – нонсенс, поскольку никакое отдельное подразделение не решает стратегических задач компании – действия отдельных подразделений должны быть подчинены стратегии компании, и любители военной терминологии могут использовать метафору «тактика» или «боевая задача» подразделения, с полным пониманием того, что такая «боевая задача» существует только краткое время и может в любой момент измениться; постоянные задачи функций (подразделений) существуют, неизменны и сводятся всегда к обеспечению деятельности компании в целом;

4) планы мероприятий не являются стратегией (и бесполезны без стратегии); изучение положения компании среди других компаний не является стратегией (и бесполезно почти всегда – исключением является рассмотрение необходимости закрытия бизнеса); анализ сильных и слабых сторон (SWOT) не является стратегией (и является пустопорожней болтовней); изучение лучших практик управления и других сторон деятельности компании не является стратегией (но может быть крайне полезным и важным при наличии обоснованной стратегии, когда понятно, что и для чего нужно изучать); подбор и расстановка кадров, построение оргструктуры, распределение полномочий и сфер влияния не являются стратегией (все эти вещи осмыслены, только если продиктованы стратегией);

5) работа над стратегией не является общедоступной и общепонятной деятельностью, она требует специальной подготовки, навыков дисциплинированного мышления, реального (не ученического) опыта работы, широкого кругозора и большого жизненного опыта; стратегия разрабатывается специально подготовленными людьми исключительно для ее принятия или непринятия единолично первым лицом;

6) принятая стратегия не подлежит публичным обсуждениям и модификациям; она не должна быть общепонятной и разделенной: понятными и обоснованными должны быть только те рекомендуемые стратегией действия, которые нужно выполнить отдельному подразделению или сотруднику; доведение всей стратегии в целом до большого количества людей способно породить только борьбу людей за сужение стратегии до своего понимания, ее подчинение собственным интересам (статус, комфорт, наибольшее вознаграждение при наименьшей нагрузке и пр.), что неизбежно приводит компанию к неуправляемому состоянию, хаосу;

топ-менеджер

1) лицо, входящее в руководящий состав фирмы, компании, менеджер фирмы, осуществляющий управление повседневными делами фирмы, каким-либо участком общей работы, деятельности подразделений фирмы и ее сотрудников; лицо, по должности ответственное за работу определенной функции (функций) в компании; в случае первого лица – лицо, ответственное за достижение компанией своей цели;

2) лица, обладающие властью выдать свое частное видение за знание и навязать его подчиненным; система выбора и продвижения топ-менеджеров гарантирует наличие среди них значительной доли людей, не обладающих необходимыми компетенциями из-за смещения выживания[iii] 3 лица, пользующиеся (в конкретных условиях) значительными бытовыми привилегиями, отделяющими их как от управляемых ими функций, так и от реальных проблем деятельности; в таких условиях важнейшей их целью становится сохранение и упрочение своего комфортабельного положения (поскольку упрочить свое положение за счет высокой длящейся необходимости в них они не в состоянии); часто ссылаются на свою должность как на подтверждение их знаний/умений/заслуг;

3) одна из существующих практик (по топ-менеджеру на функцию) приводит к уравниванию в формальных правах и участии в принятии важных решений лиц, не обладающих специальными познаниями для принятия решений и/или принципиально не способных принимать решения по своим нервно-психическим данным;

4) компетентные и уверенные в себе (и своей востребованности рынком) люди, не нуждаются в громком титуловании – им достаточно объема работы и вознаграждения; употребление человеком фразы «мы, топ-менеджеры» однозначно указывает на его полную профессиональную непригодность (так как сказать по существу вопроса ему нечего).

тренинг, коучинг – см. семинар.

управление

1) слежение за состоянием системы и выдача управляющих воздействий, достаточных (на момент принятия решений) для приближения системы к ее желательному состоянию;
в бизнесе: то же применительно к компании или ее части; желательным состоянием компании является ее способность устойчиво и долговременно производить прибыль, что достигается исключительно через производство благ, ценимых потребителями;

2) управление ошибочно связывают с исполнением властных функций в компании, в действительности властные функции являются только средством управления, а не им самим;

3) термин управление часто применяют к функциям и объектам, управлять которыми невозможно в принципе. К таким функциям и объектам относятся: а) управление персоналом: люди обладают свободной волей, они сами решают что им делать, а чего не делать (к числу таких решений относится и решение об использовании или неиспользовании своих умений, и решение о подчинении или саботаже каждого очередного приказа, распоряжения, указания) – всякий раз им можно только предлагать сделку в надежде, что она окажется выгодной для них, б) управление рисками: рисковое событие обусловлено огромным и неизвестным заранее количеством факторов, подавляющее большинство из которых не могут быть оценены количественно ни по шансам наступления, ни по их эффекту, а многие из тех, которые все-таки могут быть оценены находятся вне зоны нашего влияния; те события, которые мы можем хоть как-то себе представить, предсказать, оценить, – не являются рисками, они являются исчислимыми угрозами, в отношении которых мы всегда можем рационально выбрать позицию, принять решение, в) управление продажами: решение о покупке принимает потребитель, находящийся вне нашей власти, мы можем только постараться представить себе предпочтения потребителя с тем, чтобы продаваемая продукция была ему угодна. Примеры ненадлежащего применения термина «управление» могут быть продолжены: бизнес ведется в условиях неопределенности, что исключает выдачу управляющих воздействий по отношению ко всем его неопределенным аспектам; так же невозможно воздействовать на существенные для бизнеса аспекты вне сферы влияния управляющих;

4) слово «управлять» в русском языке применяется как перевод английского «to manage», которое имеет множество значений, причем «управление» в русском смысле этого слова не является главным («управлять» в английском варианте означает, скорее, «деятельно заботиться»и даже «нянчится»); деятельная забота управляющего о своей компании и/или своем подразделении вовсе не означает только выдачу «управляющих воздействий», она также подразумевает приспособление себя к деятельности, определенную терпимость к неидеальности, человеческие отношения с людьми вокруг себя, неустанную заботу о выживании компании в целом.

Мышки много лет выращивали траву, но она всё время получалась у них какая-то невкусная. В конце концов они решили обратиться за помощью к ёжикам. Ёжики сильно обрадовались: да мы вам обалденную траву вырастим: и вкусную, и красивую, и урожайную! Начали готовить контракт и видят ёжики, что мышки траву на песке выращивают. Тут энтузиазма сразу поубавилось, стали ёжики с мышками разговаривать: а не поискать ли нам другую землю, а какие качества травы вам наиболее важны? Ничего, сказали мышки, мы же раньше как-то выращивали, а другая земля не предусмотрена нашими корпоративными стандартами. Ладно, сказали ёжики, деньги в принципе хорошие, как-нибудь прорвёмся — давайте заключать контракт, но нужно будет сделать систему орошения. «А это для нас делают зайчики, они наши старые партнёры, не беспокойтесь!» — ответили мышки.

Контракт подписали, стали ёжики работать. И видят, что системы орошения на самом деле нет, а просто вода гоняется по кругу по трубам, а там где трубы прохудились, там лужа. Контракт разрывать никому не хочется, решили попробовать посадить разных травок, посмотреть что приживётся.
Выросли только кактусы...

А потом мышки ещё длительное время кололись и плакали, но продолжали жрать кактусы...

You might have noticed the recent new feature on posterous which gives you the option of adding 'Tags' to your blog posts.

Tags serve a variety of purposes. I thought of listing down a few that come to my mind:

1. Helps your visitors to check posts of particular interest thus serving as 'categories'

2. Helps you in gaining a few more clicks by having better chances of turning up on search results since tags have their own url. So, be sure to tag your posts with relevant keywords. They really do help in getting search engine traffic. Although currently we cannot analyze these things, I'm pretty sure the folks at posterous would provide some way of traffic analysis to us (may be by way of a tie up with google analytics, sounds interesting?)

3. If you blog on more than one niche, you can use tags to post links related to a particular niche on other similar blogs, forums etc.

So go ahead, put up some relevant tags to all your posts, old and new. You can add tags to the posts that you email by writing the tags in the 'subject:' as ((tag: nischal, posterous)). So if the title of your post is 'Tags in posterous' and you need to add two tags to the post named 'categories' and 'Make your posterous better', then your subject line would look like:

Subject: Tags in posterous ((tag: categories, Make your posterous better))

An Overview of IT Process Automation

Introduction

IT organizations are under increasing pressure to ensure high service levels and infrastructure efficiency, while lowering operating costs and adhering to best practices. As such, efforts to integrate systems and automate processes have become two key goals for IT organization professionals. Achieving these objectives means improving the level of automation within both production and operations environments.

By increasing the levels of automation and eliminating common, repetitive tasks, companies can reduce operational costs, as well as reduce the amount of specialized staff needed to manage its systems. What’s more, highly skilled IT professionals can be freed up to manage more strategic company projects and initiatives. Although the benefits of automation meets the business objectives of reducing costs, increasing productivity, and maximizing efficiency, the number one concern of IT managers today is integration. Automation itself can be a best practice in many organizations as they struggle to manage—and integrate across—increasingly complex infrastructures, but let’s talk specifically about how automation enables best practices.

Implementing best practices is achieved primarily by defining and automating IT operations management processes. Although most data center tools (monitoring, provisioning, virtualization, service desk, etc.) provide deep task automation within their solutions, they do not automate processes between applications, departments, or data silos. This leaves a substantial amount of manual work for IT staff. Done right, IT Process Automation (ITPA), also commonly known as Run Book Automation (RBA), can greatly expedite service management if they provide the means to integrate and orchestrate IT processes.

Traditional Automation Methods

Traditional automation methods, namely custom coding and scripts, are useful for running simple tasks, however, they typically lack best practices, change management, documentation, and the flexibility required in an operations environment, where business rules and configuration settings change frequently.

Traditional automation methods, namely job schedulers, run and monitor batch jobs. Although job scheduling comprises an important function in a production-computing environment, it is not well suited to automate operational processes or run book procedures, as they provide little to no integration with surrounding systems.

Due to the recent recognition of this market by both IT organizations and leading industry analyst firms alike, some companies have attempted to accomplish the equivalent of what is now known as ITPA, by running lengthy scripts with a job scheduler. This technique is costly, unreliable, and error-prone.

While scripts and schedulers work well for small tasks, they can rarely scale to handle complex environments. They also lack sophisticated dependencies and reporting that allow users to keep audit trails of processes. As process requirements grow, and more functionality is added, the result is a complex mix of scripts, programs, and utilities that only a few people actually understand. More concerning is that home-grown scripts can quickly turn into a fulltime programming commitment as well as a time-consuming and costly management burden.

Beyond Job Scheduling

ITPA solutions include many of the features and capabilities users require in a job scheduler, while also providing more advanced functions. IT process automation software can automate any administrative, maintenance, or business processes, such as restarting services, rotating logs, backing up data, deleting temporary files, and e-mailing files. It can also run several jobs on multiple machines, modify accounts, query databases, up load data and filter/read/send e-mail. In addition to standard enterprise requirements like load balancing, failover, failure routines, error handling, and logging, ITPA should also provide integration, orchestration, and process workflow.

The service name must be configured to the OpenView Operations database. You also must add the OCI DLLs to the PATH environment variable. In a typical installation of the Oracle 9i client these DLLs will be located in 'C:\oracle\ora92\bin'.
The ITOSOL_00403 and ITOSOL_00438 patches must be applied to your HP OpenView Operations server.
Oracle OCI must be installed on the HP OpenView Operations server. The following environment variables must be configured. See the Oracle documentation for information about configuring the environment variables.

Opalis Integration Pack for HP Network Node Manager 5.00

Introduction

The Opalis Integration Pack for HP Network Node Manager (NNM) allows you to create, monitor, and manage events in HP NNM and to determine which event stream will be used to Monitor and Get events from HP Network Node Manager. Eight new objects exist to access and manage NNM events from the Integration pack.

ADDED: Compatibility with OIS 6.2

System Requirements

HP NNM Remote Components 7.0 or 7.5 must be installed and configured on each Action Server and Client where the Integration Pack is deployed.

Find the "HP OpenView" folder in your Network Node Manager server installation and use file sharing to make it accessible to the user account assigned to the Action Server service. The Share name should be "OpenView".

Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework must be installed on each Action Server and Client where the Integration Pack is deployed.

The Opalis Integration Pack for HP Asset Manager enables you to create, monitor, and manage assets in HP Asset Manager.

This Integration Pack adds the following objects to Opalis Integration Server:

Introduction

The Opalis Integration Pack for FTP is an add-on for Opalis Integration Server that enables you to build Policies that manage FTP operations.

IT departments must maintain many servers, often located in other places, making direct file transfers impossible. FTP is the standard server/client solution to transfer large amounts of data across the internet. Managing the data center involves transferring file from distant servers in a repeatable and reliable way. The Opalis Integration Pack for FTP automates file transfer tasks, freeing staff to manage other duties in the data center.

Introduction

The Opalis Integration Pack for BMC Atrium CMDB is an add-on for Opalis Integration Server that enables you to build Policies that manage BMC Atrium CMDB operations.

This Integration Pack enables you to create, get, update, delete, and monitor BMC Atrium CMDB instances and relationships. You can also reconcile your BMC Atrium CMDB databases. Using this Integration Pack, you can automate the management of your configuration instances and relationships in response to events in other systems in your data center.

System Requirements

* A single user cannot access the same Remedy AR System Server from multiple Opalis Integration Server Action Servers and Opalis Integration Server Clients. In order to allow connectivity from multiple points, unique users will need to be created.

* BMC Atrium CMDB Client files have to be installed on all Action Servers and Clients. See Installation Instructions

Installation

1. Deploy the Integration Pack to the Action Servers and Clients that will use the Integration Pack. For more information about deploying Integration Packs, see the Opalis Integration Server Administrator Guide.
2. Find the following files in your BMC Atrium CMDB Client installation folder:
- Arapi71.dll
- Arrpc71.dll
- Arutl71.dll
- Icuinbmc32.dll
- Icuucbmc32.dll
- Icudt32.dll
3. Copy the files to Program Files\Common Files\Opalis Software\Opalis Integration Server\Extensions\Support\bin on all Opalis Action Servers and Clients that will use the Integration Pack.

System Requirements

BladeLogic Configuration Manager or Provisioning Manager 7.4.2 or 7.5.0 must be installed and configured on each Action Server and Client where the Integration Pack is deployed.

When you install BladeLogic Configuration Manager or Provisioning Manager 7.4.2 or 7.5.0, it also installs the Java Runtime Environment 1.5. If the installer cannot find the Java Runtime Environment, you must manually add the following path to the PATH environment variable:

\\bin\client
