Editing an Extended Class in the Console Ends the Console Session

If you import a management pack that contains an extended class, and if you edit instances of the extended class, your changes are not saved and the console session will end.

WORKAROUND: After you import a management pack with extensions, restart the Service Manager console session. This workaround does not apply to extended software items.

Do Not Use the Relative Date and Time Option in the Subscription Criteria

The relative date and time option in the subscription criteria does not work in this release.

WORKAROUND: None. When you create a subscription, do not choose the relative date and time option in the criteria.

Locale and Time Zone Setting in E-Mail Notifications Are Ignored

When you configure a user for notifications, the Locale and Time Zone settings are ignored. In the resulting e-mail notifications, the dates and times are always formatted generically for all users, and the times are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) time.

WORKAROUND: None.

A Connector That Is Configured with a Weekly Schedule Runs a Day Earlier

When you set a weekly schedule for a connector, the connector runs at the specified time, but it runs one day earlier than the specified day.

WORKAROUND: When you configure a weekly schedule for a connector, set the schedule to one day later than the day that you want the connector to run.

Some User Interface Elements Are Not Visible on the Service Maps Form

On the Service Components tab of the Service Maps form, the user interface elements might be misplaced and therefore not immediately visible on computers running Windows Vista.

WORKAROUND: Resize the Service Maps form to a smaller size until the user interface elements appear.

The Synchronize Now Task for a Connector Fails on a Console That Is Connected to a Management Server that is Not Hosting the Workflow Services

When you connect the Service Manager console to a Service Manager management server that is not hosting the workflow services (any Service Manager management server that was added in addition to the initial Service Manager management server), any attempt to run the Synchronize Now task for a connector fails. The following event is logged in the event log on that server:

Operations Manager has discarded 1 items in management group <Management Group Name> Management Group, which came from $$ROOT$$. These items have been discarded because no valid route exists at this time. This can happen when new devices are added to the topology but the complete topology has not been distributed yet. The discarded items will be regenerated.

WORKAROUND: Connect the Service Manager console to the initial Service Manager management server (The first Service Manager management server that you installed in the management group and that is hosting the workflow services), and then run the Synchronize Now task.

A Service Manager Management Group Appears to Be Registered with a Data Warehouse When It Is Not

The Get-SCDWMgmtGroup cmdlet shows that a Service Manager management group is registered with a data warehouse even if that management group was previously unregistered with that data warehouse, regardless of the method used to unregister it.

WORKAROUND: None.

The Configuration Manager Connector Synchronizes Data for Computers That Are Not Included in the Collection

A Configuration Manager connector continues to synchronize data for computers that have been excluded from the Configuration Manager 2007 collection with which the connector is synchronizing. This problem happens with computers that exist in the Configuration Manager 2007 system and were initially included in the collection, but were then excluded as the collection membership rules changed.

WORKAROUND: Create a new Configuration Manager connector to the same Configuration Manager 2007 system, and then select the collections with which you want to synchronize. After the synchronization is complete, delete the initial Configuration Manager connector. This automatically removes the excluded computers from the Service Manager database.

You Cannot Create a View with Abstract Classes

Errors occur when you create a view that is configured with a combination of an abstract class such as Configuration Item (advanced) or Service (advanced) and that is also configured with a Related classes criteria.

WORKAROUND: None.

A Class Extension is Not Correctly Synchronized with the Data Warehouse

A class extension is not extracted, transformed, or loaded by the data warehouse if the following conditions are true:

  • A custom management pack includes an extension to a class that is targeted by a data warehouse management pack.

  • The data warehouse management pack uses the "all derived" or "includeextendedclassproperties" hierarchy hints.

WORKAROUND: Update the version number of the data warehouse management pack and re-import that management pack to Service Manager. This ensures that the data warehouse management pack is correctly synchronized with the data warehouse. Alternatively, you can define an extension data warehouse management pack that includes those extended properties.

In the Service Manager Data Warehouse, Only One Dimension Can Target a Service Manager Class

In the Service Manager data warehouse, only one dimension can target each Service Manager class. For example, only the IncidentDim dimension can target the Incident class.

WORKAROUND: None.

The Console Session Ends If a Default E-Mail Program Is Not Registered

If you attempt to send e-mail messages by using the Send Mail option from a list in a form or in a wizard, and no e-mail program is registered, that attempt fails, and the console session ends.

WORKAROUND: Ensure that a default e-mail program is registered. To register an e-mail program:

  1. In Windows Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.

  2. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Programs tab, and then click Set Programs.

  3. Select Set your default programs, and then ensure that the Windows Mail program has a default.

Alternatively, you can run any e-mail client program; most e-mail programs prompt you to select a default e-mail program.

Inaccuracies in Cmdlet Help

The Help for Service Manager cmdlets has the following inaccuracies:

  • The Confirm and WhatIf parameters do not work in any cmdlet.

  • The Import-SCSMManagementPack cmdlet does not import management packs in the correct management pack dependency order.

  • The Resume-SCDWJob cmdlet works only if the JobName parameter is specified.

WORKAROUND: None.

Only One Console Session Can Run at a Time, and Only the Console Must Run As the Logged-On User

In this release, only one console session can run at a time, and that console session must be run as the logged-on user.

WORKAROUND: None.

The System Center Data Access Service and the System Center Management Service May Stop Functioning Correctly

The System Center Data Access Service and the System Center Management service may stop functioning correctly if any of the following occur:

  • The server is restarted.

  • The SQL Server service is restarted.

  • Network latency or loss of network connectivity occurs between the server that hosts the System Center Data Access Service or the System Center Management service and the server that hosts the databases.

  • Any other reason which may cause loss of connectivity or interruption to connectivity to the SQL Server.

These actions cause the instance of SQL Server that hosts the ServiceManager database or the DWStagingAndConfig database to become temporarily unavailable. In this situation, event ID 26340 is logged in the Operations Manager event log on the server that hosts the System Center Data Access Service and System Center Management services.

WORKAROUND: Verify connectivity to the database, and then restart the System Center Data Access Service and the System Center Management service.

An Incident Form with a Large Number of Related Configuration Items Does Not Open

When you try to open a work item form, such as an incident form, and the form contains a large number of related configuration items (more than 10 related items), the work item form does not open.

WORKAROUND: None. Do not add more than 10 related configuration items to a work item form.

Accessing Service Manager Using a Scoped User Role Causes Slow Performance

Users who access Service Manager using a scoped user role might experience slow performance.

WORKAROUND: Avoid the use of scoped user roles.

The "Relates to Configuration Item" Property Is Listed Twice When You Create an E-Mail Notification Template

In the Create E-Mail Notification Template wizard, when you click Insert on the Template Design page to choose the properties to insert into the e-mail subject or message, the Relates to Configuration Item item is listed twice in the Related classes list. However, one occurrence is a related work item and the other occurrence is a related configuration item. Use the following workaround to differentiate the two.

WORKAROUND:  Select one of the Relates to Configuration Item items and examine the Available properties list on the right. If the list contains classes such as Activity, Change Request, or Incident, the Relates to Configuration Item item is a related work item. If the Available properties list contains items such as Computer, Printer, or Active Directory, it is a related configuration item.

You Cannot Modify the Class in a Criteria of a View

If you attempt to modify the criteria of a view to use a different class, the choice of a new class is not reflected in the Criteria section on the Edit Test View dialog box.

WORKAROUND: Create a new view that uses the desired class.

Adding a User to a User Role Might End the Console Session

When you add a user to a user role, the Service Manager console session might end, and the following error might be logged: "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation".

WORKAROUND: Restart the Service Manager console, and then attempt to add the user again.

Issues with Localized Versions

The Service Manager Beta 2 release is localized in English, German, and Japanese. This release does not support multiple locales for the Self-Service portal. Only single locale environments have been tested. For example, a deployment topology such as a German Service Manager management server, a German Self-Service portal, and a German Service Manager console have been tested.

Issues that are related to these localized releases are as follows:

  1. The display language of the Service Manager management server determines the language of the Self-Service portal.

  2. German and Japanese words are sometimes not fully displayed, and English words might be displayed instead even when the display language of the operating system is set to German or Japanese.

  3. Dates and times are sometimes formatted incorrectly for the locale.

  4. Search might not work for characters and words in non-English alphanumeric characters. You might not be able to search for non-English words and phrases.

WORKAROUND: None.

You Cannot Export Reports in Excel Format

Any attempt to export a report in Microsoft Office Excel format causes an error.

WORKAROUND: None. Use a different format, such as comma-separated values (CSV), to export the report.

You Cannot Filter the Incident Analyst Report for a Specific User

When you filter the Incident Analyst report for a specific Assigned To user, the resulting report displays a blank Analyst field, and it includes incident information that is related to users other than the specified Assigned To user.

WORKAROUND: None.

Performance Is Very Slow on High-Latency Low-Bandwidth Networks

When Service Manager components, including the Service Manager console, have to communicate over high-latency (over 20 to 25 millisecond roundtrip) and/or low-bandwidth (under 2 megabits per second) networks, performance is very low.

WORKAROUND: Install Service Manager and SQL Server on a fast server within a high-bandwidth and low-latency network. If you need to use the Service Manager console over a low-bandwidth and/or high-latency network (WAN, VPN), use Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) (such as Remote Desktop Session Host server or Citrix), and run the Service Manager console on a fast network.

Extract Jobs Periodically Fail if Multiple Management Groups Have Been Registered With the Data Warehouse Database Using Different Credentials

When you register multiple Service Manager management groups to a single data warehouse database and if the credentials that you use for registration are different for each source management group, future extract jobs might periodically fail.

WORKAROUND: When you register multiple Service Manager management groups to a single data warehouse database, use the same credentials for all the Service Manager management groups.

You Cannot Edit Views in the Console

You cannot edit views in the Service Manager console. This does not interfere with the ability to create views using the Create View task in the Service Manager console.

WORKAROUND: Re-create the view with the desired configuration, verify that it works properly and then delete the original view. Alternatively, you can create and modify views by using management packs. For more information, search product blogs such as the Hacking Management Pack XML Like a Pro blog.

When You Open a Form in the Authoring Tool You are Unnecessarily Prompted for Files

On servers running Windows Vista, when you open a form in the Authoring Tool you will be unnecessarily prompted for two files, the Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.UI.ExtendedControls.Aero.dll and the Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.UI.Controls.Aero.dll file.

WORKAROUND: Dismiss the prompts and continue. The form opens successfully without providing the location of these files.
